Dr. L N Prasad a medical doctor by profession was famous visionary person. He was equally remembered in the field of social work. But Dr. Prasad is no more with us physically. He passed away on 3rd of March, 2008.
Dr. Prasad established Blood Transfusion Centre under Nepal Red Cross Society to ensure supply of blood to the patients by creating awareness on blood donation. As an Ophthalmologist; Ear Nose & Throat specialist, he established Eye and ENT department in Bir Hospital and rendered service. If the sight or hearing of the patient could not be restored he did not let the patient go off un-served as he assumed its subsequent burden comes to family and community. So, he initiated comprehensive model of Community Based Rehabilitation to cater Rehabilitation services at door step of the community. He thus helped to provide rehabilitation service like educational, vocational, economic rehabilitation explore latent potential and thereby use full potential of the persons with neurosensory impairment. This helped such persons to establish in the society as productive and useful citizen and live with dignity. Health science comprises of promotive, preventive and curative aspects. In his endeavour to provide such services he founded Deaf school, Nepal Blind and Disabled Association, Nepal Association for the Welfare of the Blind, Impact Nepal, BP Eye Foundation and so on. This strategy proved to be very effective and appropriate in the Nepalese context. He led the medical community as President of Nepal Medical Association and worked for the systematic development of medical field.
Dr. Prasad also served the nation as Member of National Assembly- the Upper House of Parliament. His works are well acknowledged nationally and internationally. He has been awarded with glorious award like Helen Keller Annie Sullivan award, Takeo IWAHASHI Prize of Japan together with the awards from Government of Nepal.
He alone did not remain committed to social service, more importantly he ever encouraged and inspired young generations and his own family members to engage in philanthropy. He was farsighted persons and always planned for development of leadership for perpetual functioning of the organizations.
He will always be remembered in for his imperishable contribution to the nation specially medical and social sector. Our pledge to continue his noble mission will be real homage to his heavenly abode soul.
